The Department of Jazz Studies at the Boyer College will feature master classes and performances by women throughout the year. "There are so many talented women on the jazz scene today - many of whom are overlooked and don't get their due," said Terell Stafford, director of Jazz Studies, chair of Instrumental Studies and Laura H. Carnell Professor. "We wanted our students and the general Temple community to learn about these amazing women and all they have to offer as professional jazz musicians, teachers and mentors."
Boyer's Jazz @ the Underground series includes a series of master classes in the afternoon followed by a performance in the evening. Both take place in the Gittis Student Center and are free and open to the public. The Temple University Jazz Band's annual performance at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, will feature the incomparable Akiko Tsuruga, jazz organ, on April 27, 2010.
